About Bioeconomy

The world's resources are limited and there is a great need to find sustainable ways to produce and consume our bio-based resources.

Bioeconomy is a growing area with the potential to replace the use of fossil resources, create new high-value products and at the same time create new jobs. Bioeconomy extends across sectors and industries and includes the production of renewable biological resources as well as the utilization of sidestreams and residual products for high value products in food, feed, bio-based materials, chemicals, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and energy.

The conversion to a sustainable and circular bioeconomy requires research and development of technology, cross-cutting value chains and understanding of the bioeconomic systems. Sustainable bioeconomy has the potential of being a key solution to many of the challenges Denmark, Europe and the world face today; growing population, climate change, scarce resources and ecosystems under pressure.
